The reporter recently interviewed a number of foreign trade enterprises to learn that the first quarter of China's foreign trade showed many new highlights.

Industry insiders believe that from January to February, China's imports and exports hit a record high in the same period, but the recovery momentum of external demand is still unstable. In the face of the current situation, with the support of policies, enterprises have made arrangements in advance to cultivate new export growth points from multiple dimensions such as products, formats and markets, and accumulate new momentum for the high-quality development of foreign trade.

Shipping orders are impressive

We will foster new growth areas for exports

In the first two months of this year, China's import and export of goods reached 6.6 trillion yuan, an increase of 8.7%, achieving a solid start. From the perspective of structure, the export of some key products was faster than the whole, of which the export of mechanical and electrical products increased by 11.8%. Gao Shiwang, spokesman for the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Mechanical and Electrical Products, analyzed in an interview with reporters that in the first two months of this year, ship orders entered the centralized delivery period, and exports increased by 173.1% year-on-year in dollar terms, becoming a new bright spot in the export of the mechanical and electrical industry.

This trend continues. In March, the weather is warm, in the country's largest private shipbuilding base, the national export base Jiangsu Taizhou, the ship companies are stepping up production and construction. At the dock of Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding Co., LTD., 14 ocean-going vessels are being built simultaneously. At present, the company has an export order of 39 ships, about 6.44 million deadweight tons, and the production plan is to be scheduled until 2028.

According to the statistics of Nanjing Customs, in the first two months of this year, the total export value of various types of vessels in Jiangsu Province was 18.24 billion yuan, an increase of 150.1%. For the substantial growth of ship orders, the relevant person in charge of Nanjing Customs told reporters that as the largest province in the country's Marine shipbuilding industry, Jiangsu's shipbuilding industry concentration and the modernization level of the whole industrial chain have been upgraded in recent years, and high-end ship types such as oil tankers, LNG dual-fuel power ships and super large container ships have been favored by the international market.

From the national point of view, the international market share of the three major indicators of shipbuilding in China continues to lead the world. China Shipbuilding Industry Association data show that from January to February, China's shipbuilding completions, new orders and hand-held orders accounted for 56.5%, 69.5% and 56.1% of the world market share, respectively. Gao Shiwang analysis, following the "new three", ships and other new highlights continue to appear, will lay a solid foundation for the export of mechanical and electrical products to maintain growth, but also for China's foreign trade stable total optimal structure to provide better support.

Busy "going out" enterprises to open up diversified markets

In addition to cultivating advantageous industries, opening up diversified markets has also become the direction of foreign trade enterprises. "South Korea, Mexico, Turkey, Poland... This is our first year abroad, and we plan to participate in seven overseas exhibitions." Zeng Xiaomei, deputy general manager of Guangdong Origin Intelligent Technology Co., LTD., told reporters with a little excitement that the company has set an export target of 50 million yuan this year.

Origin Intelligence is a national specialized new "little giant" enterprise, focusing on the development and manufacturing of high-end laser CNC machine tools and CNC systems. Zeng Xiaomei said that after the success of the domestic market, the company began to explore the international market. Last year, we successfully exported several laser CNC machine tools. Since then, the company has set up two overseas sales departments, and this year is ready to take a bold step to increase the development of export markets.

There are many foreign trade enterprises like this. Since the beginning of this year, enterprises have further accelerated the pace of "going out" to participate in exhibitions and meet customers, and many foreign trade people have arranged their schedules full. Relevant institutions will also help foreign trade enterprises to participate in overseas exhibitions as a focus of work. For example, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade said that in 2024, it will vigorously carry out the "thousand delegations to the sea" action, organizing more than 1,000 batches of business groups to go to overseas exhibitions and investigations and negotiations.
